Bernard and Katherine Read papers, 1902-1964 (inclusive).

Material documents the work of a scientist who worked in China from 1909 to 1949, as well as the life of his family in China. Bernard Read was not directly engaged by a missionary agency but spent the first part of his career in China at the Peking Medical College, a union venture of various mission agencies. Read left the Peking Medical College due to disagreements with the actions of its leaders and went to work for the Lester Institute, an organization financed by an American businessman in China.

Bernard E.
